About the Position: The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), a subordinate research laboratory under the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command, is the lead medical biological defense research laboratory for the DOD Chemical Biological Defense Program. Duties

Provide administrative support to ensure controlled access to biological select agents and toxins (BSAT). Monitor closed circuit television (CCTV) systems. Maintain data bases, files and control logs used in identifying potential threats and/or security incidents. Ensure security of personnel and key and lock control in a biological medical research defense facility. Employment of physical security and devices. Act as liaison and notify chain of command, emergency personnel, and first responders in the event of emergency.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Secret Security Clearance
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Pre-employment and random drug testing is required.
  • Must participate in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP).
  • Must participate in the Occupational Health Surveillance Program (OHSP).
  • In the event of a crisis employees assigned to this position may be designated as mission essential during inclement weather conditions or other designated/identified emergency conditions.
  • In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority. Incumbent will report for duty during designated inclement weather conditions.
  • This position requires 24/7 shifts that will include weekends and holidays.
  • This position may require that the incumbent work overtime.

Qualifications

USAMRIID is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Personnel Demonstration Project (PDP). The DB-02 payband is equivalent to the GS-05 step 1 to GS-12 step 10 level, HOWEVERmanagement has elected to announce at the higher end of the pay band (GS-09 to GS-12). In keeping with the Demonstration pay fixing policies, employees earning a salary that falls within this payband equivalent, will not receive an immediate pay increase (promotion) if appointed to this position. Future pay increases within the payband will be accomplished through the pay for performance management system. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Conducting in vivo and/or in vitro studies in accordance with 21 CFR (Good Laboratory Practice ),or other regulated study environment supporting product development; (2) Applying principles and concepts from experience in Microbiology, Virology, Immunology, and Molecular Biology; (3) Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting study data and reporting in a formal study report; and (4) Developing, evaluating, or employing molecular diagnostic, immunological diagnostics, cell-based assays. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Microbiology, Biology, Molecular Biology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
