OIG is organized into seven operational units: the Immediate Office of the Inspector General, Office of the Counselor, Office of Audits and Evaluations, Office of Healthcare Inspections, Office of Investigations, Office of Management and Administration, and Office of Special Reviews. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 60 locations throughout the country.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
Serve as the assistant to the Director and represent the division in a wide variety of matters relating to the administration of the division.
Create and send semi-custom responses to complainants by identifying the issue that needs addressed, study and research the issue, and select the most appropriate response to the inquiry.
Receive, screen, and control correspondence and route the items directly to the appropriate staff for action.
Take notes at the division staff meeting. Use notes to create rough drafts, tables, or other data pertaining to the administrative activities of the branch.
Maintain the read file by scanning and uploading files into the appropriate files for review by the staff.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
For the GS-7; specialized experience is one year of experience at the GS-6 level or equivalent in public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position, and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes:
- Independently conducting customer service responsibilities; AND
- Managing electronic systems that include calendars, filing systems, record retention and office records; AND
- Responding to requests for information; AND
- Attending staff meetings to take notes for distribution to stakeholders
For the GS-6; specialized experience is one year of experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent in public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position, and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes:
- Conducting customer service responsibilities; AND
- Maintaining an electronic calendar for management; AND
- Responding to requests for information; AND
- Managing electronic filing systems
For the GS-5; specialized experience is one year of experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent in public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position, and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes:
- Assisting with customer service tasks; AND
- Maintaining an electronic calendar for management; AND
- Coordinating the retention of office records
OR
Completed four (4) years of education above the high school level from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR
Have a combination of education and experience as described above that together qualify me for the position. (Please attach a copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit).
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-06level for 52 weeks.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05level for 52 weeks.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-05, you must have been at the GS-04level for 52 weeks.
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
