This position is located at the VA Medical Center, Durham, NC and is organizationally aligned under Medical Service. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer assigned to Medical Service. The incumbent provides administrative support to the Medical Service Quality Improvement (QI) program.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Incumbent had program/administrative responsibility maintaining the Services' Quality/Process Improvement Program (QI), administrative/operational support for the house staff inpatient and subspeciality program, effective ADPAC support for professional and administrative staff and functioning as a senior/lead program assistant for the Service.
Responsibility for all administrative aspects related to the Medical Service QI program.
Incumbent will conduct studies and prepare reports on various QI topics by obtaining and analyzing data from medical wards, Medical Service section personnel and other sources as self initiated or assigned by the Chief of Medical Service. Medical Service QI committee or Administrative Officer.
Responsible for monitoring and reporting data on other assigned QI initiatives in relation to the electronic medical record, i.e. monitoring and assuring completing of electronic orders, progress notes, attending admission notes and consults.
Reads all incoming QI correspondence, determining proper action, maintaining suspense file or necessary action and independently preparing response where appropriate, assuring that necessary Medical Service personnel are made aware of correspondence concerning QI activities.
Performs work which involves the collection, compilation and/or tracking of data and statistical information in support of Medicine Service program operation.
Assist in the reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies.
Organizes computerized data sets, and retrieves computerized data.
Completes daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports for the service line.
Review inpatient charts for each attending physician for appropriate documentation to determine compliance with Residency Supervision Policy, JCAHO and other VA guidelines.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/16/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Proficiency Requirement: Clerk-Typist, Office Automation Clerk/Assistant and Positions with Parenthetical Titles of (Typing), (Office Automation)
Clerk-Typist, GS-2/4; Office Automation Clerk/ Assistant (any grade); (Typing) (any grade); and (Office Automation) (any grade): require 40 words per minute typing speed.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Performing administrative work involving the collection, compilation, and/or tracking of medical or operational data and statistical information. Engaging with customers requesting information or assistance via telephone, TEAMS or email. Utilizing office automation programs and software to create reports, spreadsheets, and complete assignments. Coordinate and schedule meetings.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Some walking, stooping and bending may be required. On occasion incumbent may carry light books, papers and computer printouts to and from meetings.
