The position is located in the Nursing Department of the Nevada Skies Youth Wellness Center (NSYWC), located in Wadsworth, Nevada Serves as referral center for other tribal and IHS facilities in the Arizona, California and Nevada Area. The purpose of the position is to provide direction and leadership for the staff and for planning and arranging the delivery of services in order to maintain continuity of comprehensive patient care during the tour of duty.

Duties

Clinical Patient Responsibility Provide nursing care in accordance with the Nursing Process and with established Behavioral Health standards of practices, policies and procedures. Provides direct nursing care to clients, to include medication management, assessments, care plan development/ revisions, and interventions. Recommends changes in policies and procedures to improve patient care. Exercises sound judgment to promote optimum patient/family care and arrange to secure patient supplies, after hours, from areas such as Dietary, Central Supply, Facilities and Pyramid Lake Clinic. Arranges appropriate transportation for patients and family as needed. Participates in the development and implementation of standards of care and is familiar with the criteria for evaluating client care. Supervisory Responsibility Develop employee performance appraisal management standards and monitor employee's performance. Recommend awards, job status changes based on employee's performance, conduct or behavior Responsible for development, application, and implementation of Equal Employment Opportunity EEO requirements and program guidelines. Hear and resolve group grievances or serous employee complaints Develop and implement work plans and schedules based on the DVYWC or NSYWC operational functions/needs related to client activities. Revise workload schedule and assures adequate staffing coverage is scheduled for activities. Responsible for giving support, direction, and leadership, to all staff so that optimum treatment and care is provided in a safe and timely manner for the 24 hours operation. Coordinate services with all ancillary services. Participates in determining educational needs of nursing staff and makes appropriate recommendations. General Responsibility: Coordinates services with those provided by other health care resources to assure that appropriate patient care is delivered from admission to discharge. Coordinates supplies and patient care needs from outside sources to maintain continuity of care. Work assignment is on a regularly assigned or rotational basis to provide continuity of facility management services during the various tours of duty, to include weekends and holidays. Maintains a positive working relationship between intra-disciplinary departments and outlying facilities. Communicates with the facility administrator on call as needed to facilitate proper resolution of situations beyond his/her scope of control. Assess the daily acuity, scheduled activities, and productivity by rounding and collecting information. Uses assessment data to manage human resources and prioritize appropriately Participates in continuing education programs, Multi-disciplinary Team, Treatment Team, Nursing meetings, in-services patient care conferences, and others as assigned. Participates in facility and selected service unit committees. Maintains current nursing licensure and all mandatory hospital certifications. Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned. Management of Personnel: Maintain adequate staffing based on census and acuity. Adjusts staffing to meet patient care demand. Arrange to secure supplies after hours from facilities, supply, recreation, linen and dietary departments. Arrange appropriate emergency transportation services for patient from our facility to other hospitals, care centers or other approved destinations. Allocate human resources appropriately to provide transportation to scheduled outings, appointments, courts hearing, and all other activities arranged by clinical or medical providers. Provides performance counseling or disciplinary actions, in the absence of the 1ST Line Supervisor and follows due process and Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement if applicable.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENTS, 0610 Occupational Series: EDUCATION: Successful completion of a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. (You must provide evidence of education with your application) OR LICENSURE: In order to qualify for this position, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0610-11:Your resume must demonstrate at least (1) full year of professional nursing experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Assess, plan, implement, direct and evaluate the care of patients in a hospital facility or treatment setting; prepare work performance plans, coordinates patient care and support activities to ensure smooth hospital operation for admissions, discharges, and transfers; collaborates with leadership to assure compliance with Joint Commission, Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), etc. OR Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing education program or related medical science field.
