About the Position: This position issues instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines, and ensures work assignments are carried out by other workers.
This is a Bargaining Unit AR3135 position.
Duties
Serve as a working leader providing work instructions to employees for daily carpentry tasks.
Checks work in progress and upon completion for compliance with established instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
Advises workers on proper procedures and techniques to be used based on the nature of assignment.
Participate in general repair, alteration, and maintenance of structures and buildings.
Fabricate walls, floors, and ceilings of buildings and rooms of wood, metal, and sheetrock.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver’s license.
- This position requires successful completion of pre-placement and annual medical examinations.
- This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R or DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- This position requires the completion of the introductory course in hazardous waste management within six (6) months of being assigned to this position and attend refresher courses.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Carpenter Leader without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to give directions to a number of employees in accomplishing trades and labor work associated with the Carpentry duties. Must have experience planning, laying out, and finishing carpentry work from layout to final assembly, such as features of certain sections of a building or major parts of a building as in remodeling projects, construction, alterations, or modifications. Must have the ability to pass on instructions received from supervisor. Physical Effort: Incumbent works at benches or while material is on supports which requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending; also works on ladders and scaffolds or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Arm movement is considerable when nailing and using such tools as handsaws and planers, and may lift and carry items that weigh about 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Inside work is usually in buildings, adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. Noise from hammers, saws and other power shop tools is frequent. There is dust, and sometimes dirt, when repairing structures and operating power saws. Injuries may occur in lifting heavy pieces of lumber or equipment; cuts and bruises in using hand tools and equipment; more serious injuries in operating power tools and in falls from ladders and scaffolds.
