Duties
Responsible for loading and unloading of supplies and equipment, and the movement of materials from dock to bin or from storage to shipping.
Uses remote terminals and keyboards to receive, confirm and transmit inventory data.
Prepares and completes required shipping documentation for various means of ground transportation and air freight.
Packs and labels material following agency, Federal and international packing and shipping requirements for hazardous and non-hazardous materials and items.
Works with a high degree of independence.
Requirements

- Appointment will be subject to a favorably adjudicated background/suitability investigation/determination. Failure to possess or obtain a favorable determination will result in the cancellation of the offer or will be grounds for termination.
- You must be 18 years of age or older to be assigned to a hazardous position.
- This position requires regular and recurring overtime and shift work during peak fire season.
- May require completion of a one year probationary period.
- Applicants appointed to this position must POSSESS and maintain a valid state driver's license.
Qualifications
OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining applicant's qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, the applicant must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that they possess the skill level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of Material Handler without more than normal supervision.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Selective Placement Factor(s): This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified.
Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. This must be verifiable on your application.

Physical Demands: Incumbent's work requires standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, equipment, and materials including and up to 40 pounds. Most work in performed on concrete or hard surface floor, however some work is performed in ware yard or shop area, remote field locations, and dispatch setting.
Work Environment: Incumbent woks in both inside and outside areas. Warehousing is done in areas that are hot, cold, dry, wet, drafty, and poorly lighted. The work is dirty, dusty, and greasy. The employee is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and the safety hazards inherent in warehousing. Field conditions require exposure to extreme temperatures, duty conditions, long hours and travel over secondary roads and trails.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
