You will serve as an IT Specialist (System Administration / Data Management) in the Software Management Branch (N642), Systems Integration Division (N64) of the Information Technology Department (N6) of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will perform database administration for database management systems (DBMS) including Oracle and PostgreSQL. You will perform database design, migration, performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting, and backup and data recovery. You will ensure adherence to standards and guidelines and perform software administration duties required to maintain cybersecurity compliance of the database systems. You will install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain server and systems configurations (hardware and software) to ensure their confidentiality, integrity, and availability. You will perform evaluation and diagnosing system problems, data corruption, operator errors, hardware malfunctions and software errors. You will monitor system performance, accessibility, and system logs to ensure operational availability. You will coordinate database connection and integration with other software applications. You will prepare and maintain software/system engineering documentation to meet validated requirements.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 441 within 6 months of appointment.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate that you have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies as define: Attention to detail- Thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Oral communication- Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem solving- Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. In addition to these competencies, listed above your resume needs to state at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience performing software administration tasks of relational database management systems (RDBMS), webserver technologies, and geospatial web applications on Linux or Windows operating systems. Experience maintaining cybersecurity compliance of all supported environments according to the organization guidelines and requirements. Experience evaluating and implementing compliance strategies for information assurance vulnerabilities (IAVs), and monitoring system to ensure operational availability. Experience performing skills in database design, configuration management, system integration and testing. Experience investigating and problem solving for issues caused by data corruption, operator errors, hardware malfunctions and software errors.
