Employee will be assigned to Education Service, VA New York Harbor Health Care System (VANYHHS), New York, NY, coordinating the conception, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of the facility learning and education programs and ensures alignment with the overall organization mission and vision of the VA.
Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Identifies and advocates for resources (staff, space, funds, technology, etc.) to maintain and enhance both the clinical and non-clinical learning environments.
Informs leadership of new learning techniques, theories, and technologies.
Assists with strategic planning process and advocates for the development of a robust learning infrastructure.
Ensures that employee and patient education activities comply with applicable Joint Commission and VA standards.
Develops and maintains a core education and training program.
Employs a variety of techniques to assess, analyze, and verify training needs.
Establishes long- and short-range goals to meet identified needs of the VANYHHS as a learning organization.
Serves as resource and advisor to both clinical and administrative staff in the development and review of training and education plans/strategies.
Employs a wide variety of teaching methods ranging from the traditional classroom to self-directed, learner-centered techniques.
Prepares for site visits by accrediting and review bodies such as Joint Commission, etc.
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates to include setting/adjusting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work.
Evaluates work performance of subordinates, interviews candidates, hears/resolves grievances, and develops performance standards.
Assists services with developing and maintaining a system for timely tracking of residents and students and establishes a framework for effective student training including compliance with program and institutional requirements set by national accrediting bodies.
Serves as primary liaison between the medical center and affiliated institutions for all matters related to academic affiliations and education.
Has responsibility for facility reports and evaluations.
Ensures media services in the areas of broadcasting, satellite programs along with reproduction of training or informal materials are responsive to the clinical, teaching, and administrative needs of the staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience may include: directing/overseeing staff in coordinating the administrative functions and activities of education programs; developing and maintaining education programs and policies; planning, organizing, and directing the work of staff; evaluating the effectiveness of education programs and determining training needs; maintaining a tracking system for educational activities; and utilizing good communication skills to interact with varying groups and individuals.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary; however, some walking, bending, and climbing is required to review activities outside the office and to attend committee meetings. Travel may be required to attend VISN meetings and meetings/trainings at other sites and companies.
