About the Position: The incumbent serves as a Security Guard assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations. We are conveniently located on the shores of Lake Cochituate, in Natick, MA, (a suburb of Boston, near Routes 9, 90, 95 and 495). Parking is free and access to site facilities is available to include an on-site federal credit union, recreational facilities (tennis and basketball courts), barbershop and dining facility.

Duties

Perform security guard access control and patrol duties to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage to the installation. Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation. Verify ID through the use of ID cards, badges, and biometrics automated records. Confiscate unauthorized items in accordance with security guard regulations. Escort unauthorized personnel. Conduct vehicle searches. Perform traffic control duties. Operate and perform research queries on the NCIC National Crime Information Center (NCIC/NCCIC) workstation terminals in accordance with federal and state laws. Perform Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) registrar operations in order to enroll personnel into the system for the vetting and printing of visitor passes/badges.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • State certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program for social adjustment, emotional stability, sound judgment, dependability, flexibility in adjusting to changes, ability to work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions.
  • IAW AR 600-85, Pre-employment and random Drug Screen.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary; Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must be able to perform as a member of the installations overall security response capability
  • Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Mission Essential: In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis (must add up to one year total). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-05).
