Incumbent serves as a Human Resources (HR) Assistant performing a variety of HR program functions in Federal Workers' Compensation. This position is assigned to the VISN HR Office and reports to a VISN Workers' Compensation Supervisor. The second level supervisor for this position is the VISN Deputy Human Resources Officer. Incumbent provides technical support and clerical assistance for the Federal Workers' Compensation Program.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience for the GS-06: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: Ability to assist and train others with human resources processes, and use of automated systems. Interpreting and applying policy and procedures: providing guidance, counsel and training. Reviewing cases and performing fact-finding; communicating orally and preparing written correspondence in a manner appropriate for the audience. Extensive ability to perform data entry and typing correspondence and other documentation without supervision;
Specialized Experience for the GS-07: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Interpreting and applying applying a wide variety of workers' compensation, benefits entitlements, health and insurance programs operations and systems; knowledge of relevant analytical and evaluation methodologies; and providing effective and comprehensive management advisory services and training on the program. Providing technical support to include guidance, counsel, informing and training on Workers' Compensation Programs; communicating orally and preparing written correspondence relative to the Federal Workers' Compensation Program (FWCP); reviewing cases and performing fact finding to conduct Workers' Compensation Program claim management activities; and communicating with persons within and outside of an organization in a manner appropriate for the audience.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-6/7 level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
