This vacancy is for a Supervisory IT Specialist position in the Department of Commerce located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.
This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Supervisory IT Specialist, 2210, 14, FPL GS-14 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
Duties
Leads task forces/project teams in advanced systems software/hardware project efforts to maximize efficient management and use of personnel, fiscal and contractual resources.
Supports subject matter users by developing or designing applications for computers and/or in selecting or assisting in selecting computer equipment.
Responds to and resolves problems with software, hardware, and systems management.
Supervises staff in accomplishing assigned program activities and serves as a consultant or advisor to other technicians in similar or related fields, both within the federal government and in private research or professional groups.

Qualifications
For permanent Census employees, this is a competitive temporary promotion opportunity not to exceed (NTE) 1 year or 10/2025, whichever comes first; this temporary promotion may be extended or terminated earlier. At the conclusion of the temporary promotion, the permanent Census employees will return to their position of record.
For all other Department of Commerce (DOC) employees, this is a competitive term appointment, initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 3 years. This appointment may be extended an additional year at management's discretion.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: leading mission and operations teams, implementing policies, processes, and tools to efficiently manage a federal workforce; liaise or consult in areas of program establishment and implementation; knowledge of strategic workforce planning and administrative IT governance and planning; serves as a point of escalation to resolve issues between ADSD and its customers; and championing cross-functional participation and knowledge-sharing between program areas.
In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
Education
Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.
