About the Position: You will function as a Maintenance Worker, performing a wide variety of Maintenance Worker duties involved in the operation, maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, structures, buildings and grounds, requiring the use of various trade practices. These positions are located in NEVILLE ISLAND / ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
Duties
Performs routine maintenance on mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems associated with assigned facilities equipment.
Performs general carpentry work associated with maintaining assigned facilities.
Maintains existing plumbing systems including water closets, fixtures and drains.
Assists in installing, maintaining, and repairing various piping systems and fixtures.
Makes repairs that can be accomplished by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts and components.
Uses power tools such as table saws, drills, joiners, sanders, and power nailery.
Operates forklifts on uneven conditions to unload vehicles and move materials in outside storage yards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program".
- Pre- employment drug test required and enrollment in the army random drug testing program.
- May be required to alternate working hours on all shifts and on weekends and holidays.
- This position requires you to successfully complete a pre- employment physical.
- This position requires you to be able to occasional lift in excess of 50 pounds.
- This position requires a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment and the ability to maintain the license for the duration of employment.

MinimumQualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision.
WG-08 Level: Maintenance Worker: Perform various maintenance duties under close supervision such as rough carpentry work, machinery repair, sandblasting and painting, pipe fitting, equipment operations, concrete maintenance and repair. Operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to overhead cranes, skid steers, dump trucks, aerial lifts, and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repair, replacement or creation of projects.
-Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical effort: Requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending. Works from ladders and scaffolds requiring prolonged overhead work or working in cramped or awkward positions. Climbs vertical ladders of up to 100 feet in height. Frequently lifts, positions, and carries items such as bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand weighing from 50 to 100 pounds.
Working conditions: Work is performed largely outside during the day or night subject to inclement weather and extreme temperature variations, on high structures usually over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and energized electrical equipment, and sometimes on floating craft or elevated platforms. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads which are below the water level. Incumbent is also subject to falls, drowning, injury, discomfort, hazardous atmospheres and loud noises. Uses safety equipment such as hearing and eye protection, Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs), hard hats, hard toe shoes, safety belts, respirators, protective clothing and other personal protective equipment. Working conditions have been considered in evaluation of the job, and any instances of environmental differential pay are spelled out in the Negotiated Agreement. Temporary duty assignments may be required for training purposes.
