This position is located at Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC), in Phoenix, AZ. The incumbent serves as Assistant Supervisory Clinical Nurse responsible for assisting with all aspects of managing the Operating Room (OR), and assisting in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Central Sterile & Receiving (CSR) and provides leadership, direction, and technical expertise in the delivery of nursing services. This position reports to the Supervisory Nurse of Integrated Surgical Services onsite.
Duties
Supervisory / Management:.
Works under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Clinical Nurse (SCN) in developing unit goals and objectives that affect the areas of surgical patient care, safety, performance improvement, and infection control.
Participates in developing the updating unit specific guidelines, policies, protocols and other informational materials required to effectively accomplish the mission of the organization.
Assists the SN in conducting patient and environmental rounds on a routine basis to evaluate surgical nursing care and to ensure a safe, clean, operational environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Takes appropriate action when necessary to correct deficiencies, reports information and actions taken to the SN.
Participates in the development and implementation of criteria and standards for the provision of surgical nursing care.
Participates in Performance Improvement projects, Infection Control program and Risk Management issues as required.
Collaborates with the SCN, Nurse Educators, and Staff Development in planning and implementing in service program, team conferences, discharge planning, and staff meeting.
Clinical Aspects:
Functions independently in a role as Assistant Supervisory Clinical Nurse to provide specialized nursing care directly to patients, including scrubbing and circulating nursing services.
Provides call coverage for operative nursing services. Provides surgical training in operative nursing as needed.
Exercises sound judgment by interpreting observations to the physician and initiating emergency measures. Provide comprehensive patient care that considers the physical, emotional, social, economic and spiritual needs of the patient, response to illness and the effect of the illness on the ability to meet self-care needs.
Ensures that documented evidence exists for each patient (assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation). Maintains professional knowledge and competency in surgical nursing through continuing education, staff meeting, workshops, and participating in organizational committees.

Education:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements, OR
Completed a degree from Foreign Nursing School and have an Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.
Licensure: Applicants must have active, unencumbered, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0610-11:Your resume must demonstrate at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Considered an expert in operating room nursing practice, including scrubbing and circulating nursing services; provides leadership, direction, and technical expertise in the planning development, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of nursing services; promote the professional practice of nursing using evidence-based practice principles and professional peer review.
OR
Completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.. (Must provide evidence with your application documents if qualifying using this option)
Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
