The primary purpose of this position is to provide expert Linux technical advice, guidance, and future planning for the AFTAC's enterprise mission supporting treaty monitoring activities. This position serves as the focal point for Linux-based mission server management. Linux Systems Administrator for administration, maintenance, evaluating effectiveness, analyzing design, developing structures.
Duties
Serves as a Linux senior systems administrator and technical authority in regard to operating systems maintenance, server management tools, automated disk/host provisioning, usage/capacity planning and reporting, automatic event reporting, automatic change management documentation and overall maintenance of all Linux systems.
Technical authority in regard to Information Technology server requirements, emerging technology trends, candidate solution analyses, products and solutions. Monitors and evaluates emerging developments in the Information Technology field and recommends adoption of new technology that will enhance the effectiveness of the organization's ability to ensure all word-side systems support, networks, and data are optimized.
Provides technical assistance, systems advisory service, and training to IT users and/or less experienced IT specialists. Provide technical guidance to a group of military, civilian, and contract employees; providing administrative and technical guidance necessary to accomplish the work of the organization; restricting, reorienting, and recasting immediate goals, objectives, plans and schedules to meet substantial changes in the workload.
Serves as a liaison with the center Plans & Programs directorate to define business requirements, reviews IT deliverables, and evaluates and tests hardware and software. Applies information security/assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery and usage of application systems and services.

- All new DCIPS employees are required to complete a two-year DCIPS trial period.
- The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Special Sensitive Security Clearance with access to sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). A Non-Disclosure agreement must be signed.

- This position includes information assurance work. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position may be required to achieve the appropriate Information Assurance Technical Level II certification within 6 months of assignment of these duties.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for Individual Occupational Requirements for Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A)

This is a GG-12 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-12 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-12 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience includes: Serves as a Linux senior systems administrator and technical authority in regard to operating systems maintenance, server management tools, automated disk/host provisioning, usage/capacity planning and reporting, automatic event reporting, automatic change management documentation and overall maintenance of all Linux systems. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of Information Technology infrastructure systems administration policies, processes, best practices, and requirements as they relate to performing as a senior systems engineer in an Enterprise mission systems environment. Provide technical oversight to critical, national initiatives related to world-wide enterprise Information Technology solutions and associated issues.
2. Knowledge of a full range of Linux management concepts, operations, design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in designing, developing, testing, implementing, managing, and maintaining Linux systems which meet current and future state of the art organizational mission requirements.
3. Ability to perform assignments that require a mastery of Red Hat X.X Enterprise Linux, SuSE X.X Linux and clustering technologies. (latest versions)
4. Ability to use judgment and discretion in the acquisition and implementation of operating systems,
associated devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test,
and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure
the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers.
5. Knowledge of Information Technology Systems administration approaches to assure that new and
modified systems components integrate properly within a critical Information Technology environment
in order to optimize performance and satisfy customer and mission needs.
6. Ability to apply advanced knowledge of the principles and methods of Information Technology
systems administration in relation emerging technology trends, and product and solution research and
analysis.
