The primary purpose of this position, Materials Handler (Forklift/Motor Vehicle Operator), WG-6907-06, is to operate the furnishings management program to provide furnishings and equipment support and accountability, administrative duties, customer service and other assignments.
Duty Title: Furnishings Materials Handler
Duties
Responsible and accountable for a full spectrum of warehouse functions including warehouse/office facility and storage of all assets located in furnishing management warehouse and other approved locations.
Responsible for furnishings and appliances installation, warranty, maintenance, repair, and replacement.
Maintain records and document actions.
Operate forklift equipment and automated material handling and identification equipment and drive one or more types of vehicles.
Routinely, appropriately and safely operate vehicles in accordance with established procedures/laws.

- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
- As required, may train and/or guide other personnel in performance of material handling or other duties.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 Warehousing And Stock Handling Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weightlifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting forklift equipment. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration of forklift equipment. Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done inside and outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Employee is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and falls from ladders, falling material, or injury from equipment. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas while working in a mechanized work area, or radiation, toxins, explosives hazards, or chemical fumes while working in a hazardous materials area. When applicable, required to wear protective clothing such as hard hats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. Drives motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions.
