The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for an Registered Nurse (Nurse Informaticist). The Registered Nurse (Nurse Informaticist) will function in Radiology Service.
Duties
Imaging Informatics facilitates the integration of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom to support radiologists, clinicians, and other healthcare providers in their decision-making within radiology roles and settings. This support is achieved through the utilization of information structures, processes, and technology tailored to the unique demands of radiology and medical imaging. A Nursing Informaticist candidate working in Radiology and Imaging Informatics, should have the ability to bridge the gap between healthcare and technology, particularly in the radiology domain.
The Registered Nurse (Nurse Informaticist) duties include, but are not limited to:
Incorporation of theories, principles, and concepts from appropriate sciences into informatics practice. Examples may include information, systems, and change theories. Principles and concepts may include project management, implementation methods, workflow analysis, process redesign, organizational culture, or database structures.
Integration of ergonomics and human-computer interaction (HCI) principles into informatics solution design, development, selection, implementation, and evaluation.
Systematic determination of the social, legal, regulatory, and ethical impact of an informatics solution on nursing and Veteran care.
Practice based on the nursing process and evidence- based research.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
Radiology Expertise: In-depth knowledge of radiological practices, procedures, and terminology, with experience working directly in radiology or medical imaging settings.
Informatics Background: A strong foundation in nursing informatics, with experience in applying informatics principles to radiology-specific workflows and processes.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate with radiologists, clinicians, IT specialists, and other healthcare professionals to design and implement radiology informatics solutions.
Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS): Proficiency in using PACS systems for radiology, including image storage, retrieval, and distribution.
Radiology Information Systems (RIS): Experience with RIS solutions, ensuring seamless integration with electronic health records (EHRs) and other hospital systems.
HIPAA and Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of healthcare regulations, particularly those related to radiology, and ensuring data privacy and compliance with laws like HIPAA.
Quality Improvement: Experience in using informatics to support quality improvement initiatives in radiology, such as reducing turnaround times, enhancing image quality, and optimizing radiology workflow.
Education: Involvement in designing and delivering educational programs, particularly for healthcare professionals.
Vendor and System Integration: Proficiency in working with different vendors' radiology systems and ensuring their seamless integration, data exchange, and interoperability.
Change Management: Skills in change management within radiology settings, including guiding staff through transitions to new technologies and workflows.
Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree.
Physical Requirements: Applicant must possess the ability to do the following: heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over; pulling, pushing and reaching above the shoulder; potentially long periods of walking, standing, kneeling and repeated bending. Transferring patients and objects may be required.
