The primary purpose of this position is to process incoming, intrabase, and outgoing communication; accomplish regular and controlled mail services to organizations served on Robins AFB.
Duties
Checks accuracy by comparing Registered, Certified, Insured, or Express Mail tracking numbers with exterior contents.
Receives and processes unclassified official mail consisting of parcels, flats, pouches, and letter mail. Performs a variety of mail duties associated with document security and accountable mail.
Operates computerized mail processing equipment to dispatch first class and standard mail after determining type of mail and customer account number.
Receives accountable, classified, and express mail for off-base dispatch. Ensures material is sufficiently secure to prevent damage and possible exposure of classified information while in transit.
Generates postage to be affixed to the article or when authorized, uses a computer to manifest the article for dispatch by private carrier.

- Must possess appropriate vehicle operator’s license.
- May be required to work irregular hours, overtime and weekends.
- Must be capable of lifting packaged, boxes, and mail bags weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Must not have medical conditions that prevent prolonged standing, walking, climbing.
- Must never have been convicted of a crime involving theft.
Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of general experience required for GS-0305-04 level positions. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
EDUCATION: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience as described above may be used to qualify for this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Thorough knowledge of Air Force security and accountable mail regulations and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of functions performed by a large number of units is required to analyze general subject matter of diverse correspondence to correctly route to the appropriate organization.
Working knowledge of organizational changes in order to give proper referral service to mail.
Working knowledge of AF and USPS regulations governing domestic and international mail is required to ensure proper postage.
Working knowledge of Windows software environment is required in order to operate specialized computer-based mail processing equipment and office automation software.
Thorough knowledge of Suspect Package identification requirements.
Physical Effort: Long periods of standing and walking while sorting mail are required. Regular and recurring lifting of moderately heavy material (over 50 pounds with assistance) is required. Occasional lifting of items up to 70 pounds with assistance is required.
Work Environment: Work is usually performed in a mailroom setting with several hazards associated with the mail. Incumbent is required to travel by truck and perform delivery/pickup duties.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
