Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information Technology, Passenger Systems Program Directorate, located in Ashburn, VA.

Duties

Joining Customs and Border Protection, Office Information and Technology will allow you to use your expertise in IT principles, concepts and methods to support IT systems and services. This position starts at a salary of $155,700.00 (GS-GS-15, Step 1) to $183,500.00 (GS-15, Step 10) with promotion potential to $183,500.00 (GS-15 Step 10). In this Supervisory Information Technology Specialist (Applications Software/Security) position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals. Typical work assignments include: Directing a program or major program segment with significant resources. Exercising significant responsibilities in dealing with officials of other units or organizations, or in advising management officials of higher rank. Making recommendations based on trend analysis for enhancements to software and hardware solutions to enhance customer experience. Preparing and presenting briefings to senior management officials on complex and controversial issues.

Basic Requirement: Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendation. Along with the four competencies listed above you must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience described below to qualify based on experience. Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Directing major programs with significant resources, directing the work of federal employees and contractor subordinates toward the accomplishment of program goals; and making decisions on work problems presented by subordinate supervisors, team leads and contractors. Exercising final authority for all personnel actions such as: selecting prospective employees, evaluating employee performance, and effecting disciplinary actions when required. Supervising highly technical functional areas and making decisions within the scope of their responsibilities and is responsible for ensuring IT policies and programs are accomplished efficiently and effectively to meet goals and objectives of the organization. Exercising considerable judgment and a high degree of initiative in anticipating the effects of changing business requirements and new technologies on strategic plans for the IT program.
