This position is located at Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC), in Phoenix, AZ. The incumbent serves as Assistant Supervisory Clinical Nurse responsible for assisting with all aspects of managing the Operating Room (OR), and assisting in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Central Sterile & Receiving (CSR) and provides leadership, direction, and technical expertise in the delivery of nursing services. This position reports to the Supervisory Nurse of Integrated Surgical Services onsite.

Duties

Works under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Clinical Nurse (SCN) Integrated Surgical Services in developing unit goals and objectives that affect the areas of surgical patient care, safety, performance improvement, and infection control. Implement strategies to accomplish goals and objectives of the unit, department and organization and participate in developing the updating unit specific guidelines, policies, protocols and other informational materials required to effectively accomplish the mission of the organization. Provide specialized nursing care directly to patients, including scrubbing, circulating nursing service, and provide call coverage for operative nursing services. Observes patients for conditions that may require emergency treatment and exercise sound judgment by interpreting observations to the physician and initiating emergency measures. Assures that individualized goal-directed surgical nursing care is provided to each patient through the utilization of the nursing process. Provide comprehensive patient care that considers the physical, emotional, social, economic and spiritual needs of the patient, response to illness and the effect of the illness on the ability to meet self-care needs.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S). GS-0610: Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements, OR Completed a degree from Foreign Nursing School and have an Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. Licensure: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the above Basic Requirements, applicants must also meet the Minimum Qualifications for the grade level for this position and the Selective Placement factor listed below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0610-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Considered an expert in operating room nursing practice, including scrubbing and circulating nursing services; provides leadership, direction, and technical expertise in the planning development, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of nursing services; promote the professional practice of nursing using evidence-based practice principles and professional peer review. OR Completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.. (Must provide evidence with your application documents if qualifying using this option) In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements and Minimum Qualifications, you must also meet the following Selective Placement Factor. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF): Certification - The following current and valid certification has been deemed a position requirement and must be met in order to qualify for this position. (You must provide evidence of meeting this SPF to be considered qualified.) Certified through The Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI) as a Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
