Duties
You will be serve as a firefighter performing augmented skills of a credentialed Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) and Hazardous Materials Technician.
You will be responsible for inspecting structures and hazardous areas for compliance with Marine Corps Orders, Base Orders on fire regulations and National Fire Codes.
You will respond to any release of hazardous materials, munitions, and fires at various storage sites, in vehicles or vessels used to transport these materials.
You will perform offensive and defensive firefighting operations on incidents involving structures, aircrafts, and wild land fire settings.
You will respond to medical emergencies to provide for the rescue and on scene stabilization for victims of fire, sudden illness, accidental injuries, childbirth, and other events requiring medical personnel.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- A valid North Carolina or National Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification is required.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- Selectee must be able and willing to work a 72 hour work week or 24 hour on/off work schedule.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- A valid North Carolina Class "A" non-CDL and government driver license is required at all times. Individuals will be given 120 days from the date they are hired to obtain a valid North Carolina State class "A" non- CDL driver's license.
Qualifications
GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: serving as a Firefighter providing emergency medical treatment to include but not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and rescue of patients in confined spaces and auto extrications; structural firefighting operations; responding to hazardous material emergency operations.
GS-05: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-04) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: serving as a Firefighter responding to fires, hazardous material emergencies and administering emergency care.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, you may qualify based on education or equivalent combination of education and experience, as follows:
GS-05: Successfully completed a 4-year course of study in an accredited college of university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or related fields of study.
OR
Possess a combination of specialized experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal 100 percent.
