Duties

You will provide supervision and coordination of various single-trade and multi-trade positions within the Mechanical Work Center. You will be responsible for directing and reviewing work at job sites. You will train and instruct subordinates in proper work methods, proper use of tools and equipment, and assures that all safety regulations are adhered to. You will be responsible for coordinating environmental requirements ensuring that shop practices and documentation is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will maintain and submit appropriate production reports and administrative records; and will perform random inspections on completed maintenance tasks. You will promote and administer management programs for unit consisting of but not limited to safety, cost reduction, hazardous waste reduction, incentive awards, beneficial suggestions, and quality assurance. You will be responsible for planning and preparing daily, weekly, and monthly work schedules; providing subordinates with sequence of operations on maintenance, repair, and emergency service jobs assigned to the work center. You will analyze employee performance on a periodic basis and provide counseling and performance reviews a minimum of twice annually.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be subject to unpleasant odors and fumes, which could prove hazardous to physical well-being, while supervising workers and inspecting jobs in progress. May be required to come in contact with and dispose of hazardous materials.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must qualify for and obtain a Government Motor Vehicle Operator's license for light trucks and electric scooters.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Must have experience with stock records, availability of supplies and preparing requisitions. Must qualify for and obtain a Government Motor Vehicle Operator's license for light trucks and electric scooters. Equipment repair/metal working/ electrical/ plumbing and pipe-fitting knowledge required.
