This position is located in the Legal Division, Opinions and Research Unit (ORU) of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) located in Washington, DC, and provides legal advice and opinions on general corporate law matters to the Division of Administration, Division of Finance, Executive Offices, Office of Executive Secretary, Office of Legislative Affairs, Inspector General, and others.
Duties
- Performs a wide range of legal work related to the preparation of FDIC legal opinions addressing a wide range of legal and policy issues affecting the FDIC and its operations, some of which are complex, sensitive, confidential, and matters of first impression that impact the FDIC’s operations and personnel, including such matters as: the applicability of various statutes, regulations, policies, or Executive Orders to the FDIC; the FDIC’s status as a government corporation; ethical standards and other rules governing employee conduct; delegations of authority; intellectual property rights; cybersecurity; environmental laws; tax issues; employee indemnification and benefits; the interpretation of the Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act; and the powers, rights, and duties of the Board of Directors.
Qualifications
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 13 level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing legal advice and opinions on 1) legal and policy issues affecting an organization and its operations; 2) rules governing employee conduct; 3) tax issues; and 4) employee benefit plans (such as retirement, life insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, and flexible spending accounts.)
J.D. or LL.B Degree required.
Active Membership in good standing of the bar of at least one state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia is required.
