The mission of the Office of Facilities and Property Management (OFPM) is to advance NIST's mission success by planning, building, operating, maintaining and servicing facilities that provide a safe, secure, and sustainable environment.

Duties

Install electrical equipment including lighting, switches, receptacles, and breaker panels Secure panel boards to walls and ceilings to accomodate raceways and conduits Draw wires through walls and ceilings, solder wire connections, and attach fixture mounting brackets and fixtures Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning electrical systems and equipment Read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings Connect electrical wiring and outlets according to specifications Use hand tools to install electrical components and conduct repairs

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
  • Suitable for Federal employment
  • Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination
  • Bargaining Unit Position: Yes - Washington Area Metal Trades Council (WAMTC), AFL-CIO

Qualifications

There are no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to assist journeymen electricians in electrical installation, maintenance and repair of electrical items such as wire connections, attaching fixtures, connecting wires and outlets, installing lights and switches, replacing defective outlets, and other similar types of duties without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out elements and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
