About the Position: This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Post-Secondary Students and Recent Graduates. This position is a TERM position. It is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of four years. This position may be subsequently be non-competitively converted to a career-conditional or career appointment. Note: Management has the option to select at any grade level advertised.

Duties

As a GS-0899-3 Student Trainee (Engineering and Architecture), the duties include but are not limited to: assist professional personnel performing engineering or scientific computer hardware and software analysis work. As a GS-0899-4 Student Trainee (Engineering and Architecture), duties in addition to GS 0899-3 include: Perform portions of processional or technical projects involving designs, structures, or systems using established criteria or specifications. As a GS-0899-5 Student Trainee (Engineering and Architecture), duties in addition to GS 0899-3/4 include: Perform duties characteristic of architecture, civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering accomplishing a variety of developmental duties.

Requirements

  • A trial or probationary period may be required in accordance with agency policy.
  • Post-secondary students being converted to positions covered under Administrative Careers with America (ACWA) must be assessed prior to non-competitive conversion.
  • Incumben t must sign a DHA Post-Secondary Student Participant Agreement upon appointment.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Post-secondary students may be non-competitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment within 120 days of successful completion of their academic program requirements.
  • Appointment expires 120 days after completion of the designated academic course of study, unless the student is selected for noncompetitive conversion pursuant to this authority.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: To be eligible for consideration you must meet the definition of a Post-secondary student as defined below: Post-Secondary Student: a person who, (1) is currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at, a full-time program at an institution of higher education; and (2) is making satisfactory progress towards receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree; and (3) has completed at least one year of the program. In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Education requirement GS-3: Completed at least one year of education above the high school level and I am pursuing a degree in the field of engineering, engineering technology or architecture or a related field. This education must have been obtained in an accredited technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences. Education requirement GS-4: Completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study. Two years of full-time academic study is defined as 60 semester hours, 90 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university. Education requirement GS-5: Completed 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree leading in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, and have at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. NOTE: You must provide college transcripts to support educational claims. Diplomas will not be accepted in place of transcripts, transcripts MUST be submitted with your application. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant education and experience. Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Post-secondary students being considered for initial appointments to positions leading to target positions with positive education requirements should be enrolled in directly-related degree programs in order to meet the OPM qualification requirements for the target position upon completion of their academic program.
