Duties

In this position as a Senior Advisor, you will provide advice and counsel to the Assistant Commissioner (AC) and Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) on a variety of highly complex and sensitive policies, programs, and issues of critical importance to CBP and OPR. This position starts at a salary of $155,700.00 (GS-15, Step 1) to $183,500.00 (GS-15, Step 10) with promotion potential to $183,500.00 (GS-15 Step 10). In this position you perform the following duties, plus additional duties: Serving as an expert consultant providing advice, recommendations, and evaluation of proposals across varied and specialized Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) programs that have a national impact and provides authoritative guidance on complex issues impacting major DHS or intra-government programs for the Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, and senior leaders across CBP. Planning, directing, and executing liaison operations for critical department and government-wide programs with national or international implications. Researching and writing reports or other documents that provide authoritative guidance on large and complex program issues. Recommending long-range program plans, goals, objectives, and milestones which serve as the basis for substantive changes in the organization and administration of programs affecting large numbers of people.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: - Managing a wide range of investigative functions and programs including criminal, non-criminal, and special inquiry investigations related to employee integrity and misconduct; corruption detection and analysis; polygraph examination. - Performing policy development. - Managing integrity and/or security programs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 11/13/2023. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
