The advertised positions are under the Outpatient Services Director. Selectees will be appointed to a GS-13, or GS-14, or GS-15 as defined by the required graduate training for each grade level. Duties

Interviews patient/guardians, examines, reviews past medical history, performs diagnostic tests and examinations to obtain information related to each case. Examines and diagnoses the health-related conditions of individuals requesting care, refers individuals for consultation when appropriate, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate therapy in conformance with approved clinical privileges. Provides pediatric medical care services to patients in surgical, outpatient and inpatient settings, and provide consultation to the Emergency Department in hospitals, health centers, clinics, other designated health care facilities, outreach clinics, and/or via telehealth/telephone services when appropriate. Serves as technical authority within specialized area and assumes appropriate administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor. Attend beneficiaries of Service Unit in inpatient facilities as assigned; visits assigned inpatients and records their progress in their medical record.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF) The SPF is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants who do not meet a SPF will be ineligible for selection consideration. Board Certification: Board Certification has been determined to be important to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Board Certified in the physician's specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) is a condition of employment. -OR- Recently completed Residency program; thus Board Eligible and actively pursuing Board Certification in the Specialty to which applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):OPM Link: Medical Officer Series 0602 (opm.gov) Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates(external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)(external link). A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association(external link), (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)(external link). A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least three (3) year of graduate training or at least three (3) years equivalent experience and training. The required years of training and/or equivalent experience and training is defined by grade level listed below. GS-13 -- 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. GS-14 -- 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. GS-15 -- 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
