The Physician (Emergency Medicine) positions are located at the Pine Ridge Service Unit. The primary purpose of this position is to function as a Physician in the Emergency Room providing comprehensive clinical medical care at a primary and secondary level in an inpatient/outpatient setting. Duties

Full range of medical duties within the Pine Ridge Service Unit, Emergency Room. Provide full range of general to complex emergency room cases such as injuries caused by automobile accidents, assaults with weapons, other accidents which may cause serious harm. Incumbent stabilizes the patient and examines the patient to determine the seriousness of the illness or trauma. Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes or provides relatively new treatment regimens, or arranges for specialized care or patient referral as required. Records patient-provider transactions in the problem oriented medical record format and completes required data collection instruments, referrals, and medical records as required. Participates in medical staff functions such as medical program review, quality assurance activities, and organizational functions including attending meetings and accepting committee assignments.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF) The SPF is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants who do not meet a SPF will be ineligible for selection consideration. Board Certification: Board Certification has been determined to be important to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Board Certified in the physician's specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) is a condition of employment. -OR- Recently completed Residency program; thus Board Eligible and actively pursuing Board Certification in the Specialty to which applying. Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): DEGREE: Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association(external link); Association of American Medical Colleges(external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education(external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates(external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)(external link). A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association(external link), (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)(external link). A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least five (5) years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Federal service or the private or public sector: GS-15: 5 years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 8 months of initial apply date.
