This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Departmental Administration (DA), Office of Operations (OO), Mail and Reproduction Management Division (MRMD).
The primary purpose of the position is to provide administrative and clerical support to coordinate office activities for the organization in support of program goals and objectives.
Duties
Reading incoming correspondence, publications, regulations, and directives that may affect the organization.
Serving as the organization's focal point for providing correspondence services for an organization with subordinate units.
Assisting the supervisor's subordinates in the procedural aspects of expediting the work of the office, including redistributing clerical assignments to take care of fluctuating workloads.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade:
Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
GS-05: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service or equivalent responsibility in the private sector/ pay systems that has equipped the candidate with the particular competencies to successfully perform as an Administrative Support Assistant. For this position, the specialized experience is: (1) Performing clerical and administrative work in an office environment; (2) Utilizing office automation software to prepare correspondence, documents, and entering data and timesheets; (3) Maintaining and updating files for an organization.

Four (4) years above high school (This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.)

Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified.

Education
Education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable for the GS-05.
This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
