This position is located in the Laboratory Department, Parker Indian Health Center. This position is required to provide backup support to other facilities within the service unit whenever necessary to meet the needs of patient care. The position will report to the Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
Duties
Withdraw blood samples from patients by capillary and/or venipuncture.
Performs waived testing within the laboratory and/or at point of care testing locations.
Performs quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports.
Maintains and monitors information distribution systems for laboratory test requisitions and results.
Keeps records of all test referred out to reference laboratories.
Searches for and withdraws lab reports, medical data and other clerical information upon request.
Receives incoming phone calls to the Laboratory Department.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-4: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-3 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
General experience: Any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject of the area of the occupation.
Specialized experience: Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or technical support work in a closely related field, e.g. biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.
Education: Successfully completed an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a national recognized accrediting agency; OR Successfully completed 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of a full-time training course of approximately a year's duration in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant (or technician) school that included instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology) and that, in addition, included supervised laboratory practice incident to the diagnostic process and the treatment of patients; OR Successfully completed 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. OR
Combining Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-04 grade level.
GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performa a variety of standardized tests and examinations under "normal" technical supervision. Follows written procedures which give carefully detailed instructions on each step of the assigned test and examinations including the techniques, procedures, stains, reagents, chemicals, temperatures, measurements, controls to use and observe, machine settings, etc. Perform phlebotomy services, both fingers sticks and adult venipunctures. Determine correct blood specimen for each test ordered. Adhere to quality control procedures; OR
Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled; OR
Combining Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level.
