This position is part of the Department of Defense . The incumbent will be responsible for providing policy and procedures for DoD audiovisual and visual information activities and operations such as combat camera operations, and for newspapers and print media throughout DoD such as the European and Pacific Stars and Stripes.
Duties
As a Physical Security Specialist at the GS-0080-5/7 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Maintaining current knowledge of operations and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc.
Overseeing and ensuring all functions of security control, access control, and visitor control systems of the facility are always maintained in a high state of readiness.
Administering in-service security training and development activities for all Security Guard personnel in accordance with applicable regulations on security enforcement training.
Controlling access to locations as assigned by checking passes and credentials of visitors and employees entering the facility, verifying authorization for access, issues, and collects badges, as required. Providing information and assistance to visitors and staff.
Conducting patrols of locations, investigating all unusual or abnormal situations and notifies the supervisor.

- Shift work is required in this position as well as in the event of an emergency (e.g. inclement weather, disaster coverage, etc.); incumbent may be required to report for duty outside of scheduled shift.
- Must obtain and maintain current required certifications and skill proficiency with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Must obtain and maintain current required certifications and skill proficiency with first aid.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- This position may be required to be on call on a 24-hour basis, subject to shift rotation and rotation of days off.
Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS-05, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. Three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least GS-04 grade level in the Federal service:
Researching, analyzing, and gathering information regarding physical protection of a variety of classified and/or sensitive facilities and material.
Developing and implementing local security policies and procedures.
Conducting investigations, inspections, and surveys.
Recommending and/or taking appropriate corrective actions and preparing security reports.
OR
Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.
You may qualify at the GS-07 if you fulfill the following qualifications:
B. One year of specialized experience which was equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level, which includes:
Reviewing and evaluating program and security documentation to ensure adequate protection is provided in accordance with program requirements.
Ensuring proper handling of classified and/or sensitive information and data in accordance with DoD security regulatory requirements.
Conducting and reviewing vulnerability analyses and risk assessments to determine the recommended level of protection, assist with coordination of RAMS (Random Antiterrorism Measures).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above.
Superior Academic Achievement is based on:
(1) Class Standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR
(2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) - Applicants must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.; OR
(3) Honor Society Membership - Applicants may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (https://www.achsnatl.org/).

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Add the two percentages.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
