The primary purpose of the position is to ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics. Leads three or more GS-2005 employees in the distribution area to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms , secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instruments sets, and equipment.
Duties
Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
Checks on work in progress or spot checks work not requiring review.
Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor.
Approves leave for a few hours or for emergencies.
Provides information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignments , recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.
Responsible for the receiving and distribution of supplies and material in a VA Health Care System and supported catchment area.
Assists in other functional areas of the Section.
Must have or able to obtain state issued driver's license.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/13/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility.

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
