This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Candidates with Bachelor's Degrees for Scientific and Engineering Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serve as a Lead Scientist or Engineer responsible for carrying out advanced research and development activities involving complex equipment, emerging technologies, or scientific phenomena.
Duties
Serves as a team leader responsible for assigning work to employees assigned to the team based on priorities jointly established by the incumbent and the supervisor.
Conceives, plans, and conducts projects considered to be of primary importance in achieving current and new concepts, configurations and performance characteristics to establish new theories and a deeper understanding of phenomena.
Responsible for complete research and development programs that are so broad and complex they frequently must be further divided into manageable segments.
Provides advice, counsel and instructions to executing agency on technical work matters, provides on-the-job training and recommends training courses and other development opportunities to meet unit needs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Special Sensitive security clearance for the duration of employment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience as DB-03 or GS-13 equivalent grade level, which includes: (1) Developing technical projects based on applicable regulations and/or organization policies, (2) Exchanging information about technical project progress, and (3) Directing and/or coordinating technical staff activities.
