This position is located in the Business Office Service Line, Patient Services, Processing Unit at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System VA Medical Center, Alvin C. York Campus, Murfreesboro, TN.
Incumbent performs a wide variety of duties but is primarily responsible for determining eligibility and entitlement to VA Healthcare benefits, ensuring that all eligible applicants are eligible and correctly enrolled and registered.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Serving as a subject matter expert and advisor to veterans on the National Enrollment Program, the established priority levels, the Uniform Benefits Package, and benefits not affected by this legislation.
Performing technical activities involved with screening, processing, and assisting veterans, non-veterans, and beneficiaries seeking multiple medical treatment benefits.
Ensuring all veterans are in the database eligible for enrollment are properly enrolled through the Health Eligibility Center and all registrations are complete with no missing data.
Interpreting and fully understanding all eligibility's in order to make initial determinations whether veterans/non-veterans meet legal/contractual requirements for medical care.
Advising patients on national VA Enrollment, the Uniform Benefits package, and non-medical benefits.
Corresponding with applicants relative to their application for care.
Obtaining all key information needed, and inputting into the VISTA system.
Processing online applications.
Providing each patient information on patient rights and responsibilities for both inpatient and outpatient care.
Directing veterans to the appropriate authority for preparing Advance Directives.
Ensuring appropriate insurance information is obtained from veterans during the interview process and prior to any scheduled procedures for appointments in order to verify pre-admission certification.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/13/2023.
Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
Proficiency Requirement: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the skill of typing 40 words per minutes.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience performing administrative work, providing customer service, maintaining files and records and verifying information.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed four years of education above high school. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year). TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work.
