This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Office of the Chief of Staff (S), Communications and Marketing Division (SC), and serves on the Content Development and Management team. The incumbent serves as a Public Affairs Specialist and is responsible for researching, creating, writing, and disseminating sensitive, critical or complex information for external publics, on a wide variety of subjects, in support of NARA's missions.
Duties
As a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST, you will:
Plan, develop, and communicate the organization's programs, policies, and activities on national, regional and local levels.
Maintain knowledge of current events and potential news items in the organization through liaison with program managers and maintaining awareness of changes in legislation and regulations.
Ensure that all information and materials prepared and released accurately reflects the policies, views and program initiatives of the National Archives and Records Administration.
Assist in the development and transmittal of informational materials to a widespread audience to enhance the understanding of the mission and priorities of the National Archives.
In coordination with senior team leaders, design methods and strategies to reach audiences and community and civil society groups nationwide such as citizens, researchers, educators and partner organizations, such as, libraries, archives and museums for the purpose of determining their needs and assuring that NARA communication web sites address those informational requirements.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level in the federal service or equivalent private sector, that is directly related to the position as listed above and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Conducting interviews, researching, planning, writing, editing, and evaluating news and/or feature articles
AND
Developing strategies and tactics for various online platforms and internal products
AND
Managing communication websites and written news and/or feature products for an organization
AND
Contributing to community awareness and support of an organization's mission by responding to internal and external inquiries from individuals, or segments of the public, regarding an organization's programs.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-12level for 52 weeks.
