You will serve as a SUPERVISORY AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SPECIALIST (TERMINAL) in the S-3 DEPARTMENT, AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL BRANCH of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION, NEW RIVER. Duties

You will support aircraft movement on the airport surface and within airspace where control jurisdictions have been delegated. You will provide air traffic services using Visual Flight Rules (VFR), Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), and Special Visual Flight Rules (SVFR) in accordance with current orders and directives. You will supervise ten civilian personnel and evaluate performance of all assigned personnel in the absence of the ATCFO. You will initiate and implement changes to the Air Traffic Control policies and procedures as required. You will provide advice and guidance to improve the overall operational capabilities of the airfield. You will ensure controller position currency requirements are tracked and met. You will maintain proper employee management by communicating guidance and mentorship as well as recognize achievements within the facility.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. This work requires a current Class II Medical Certificate or equivalent.
  • Air traffic control specialists must possess the facility ratings required at the facility where the position is located. You will be required to maintain a valid Air Traffic Control Specialist and/or Control Tower Operator Certificate.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires rotating shift work.
  • The incumbent must possess a Control Tower Operator (CTO) certificate.
  • The incumbent shall acquire a Tower and Radar facility-rating. This requirement may be waived by the ATCFO.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector Oversee full operations of equipment and personnel providing air traffic services and airspace management to support the military air fields' movement and safety; support and guide aircraft movement in both airspace and ground using air traffic rules, policies, and procedures; investigate incidents/accidents of controller operational errors and/or deviations; develop, implement, and present justifications and/or recommendations to support modifications of instructional goals for the training program.
