This position serves as a Supply Technician at the William S. Middleton VA Medical Center, Madison, WI and is responsible to assure that adequate supplies are on hand to provide prosthetic equipment to patients.
Duties
Major duties include but not limited to:
Maintains stock at clinical areas located throughout the hospital for non-recurring clinical prosthetic items.
Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates. Checks inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts; ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviations to the supervisor.
Performs routine inventory checks by using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders. Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock.
Delivers supplies to other clinic locations in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring supplies and materials delivered are in sterile and operational condition.
Receives supplies and materials for Prosthetics and supported catchment area. Unpacks/uncrates supplies from shipping cartons; properly stores supplies and material in assigned inventory areas. Stores items in accordance with established guidelines, utilizing a computerized inventory system, to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and equipment.
Assemble of durable medical equipment such as walkers, manual wheelchairs, etc.
Serve as the Purchase Card holder and is responsible for placing the orders in a timely manner to replenish stock levels and reconciling transactions within the mandated timeframe.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/08/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: maintaining and issuing supplies/equipment in a clinical setting; assisting staff and patients with proper set-up and use of equipment; performing duties concerned with preparing, maintaining, and publishing agency stock lists; and utilizing computer software skills to create reports that display inventory and supply data.

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Physical Requirements: Work involves exertion such as: frequently lifting and carrying light-to-medium weight objects (10 to 30 pounds) and continually walking, bending, stooping and reaching. Upon receipt of inventory incumbent will push loaded carts, store and issue items in crowded quarters while handling some awkward, hard to handle items.
