This position is for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) at Madison, WI.

Duties

This position is located in Logistics, Supply Chain Management Service at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, Madison, WI., a Complexity Level 1b VHA facility. This position is for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. Major Duties: Ensures timely and proper distribution of supplies and materials in assigned areas to include sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment. Maintains stock levels, returns reusable supplies to the distribution area. Monitors expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates and removing items from use required by outdates. Reviews completed work to see that instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met. Resolves supply management issues including receiving requests, clarifying user requirements, explains delays, expedites deliveries, etc. Coordinates work activities to resolve operating issues pertaining to clinical and administrative supply management requirements. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers. Distributes and balances workload among employees and assures completion of assigned work. Utilizes the automated point of use inventory system (Omnicell or similar), as well as the parent inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes. Enters information using the generic inventory package and validates the data. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 15 days of the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. GS-06 GRADE REQUIREMENTS Specialized Experience: Must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-5, level in Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes, but is not limited to: Performing work involving inventory and excess material management. Interpreting policies, procedures, manuals, and regulations pertaining to supply/inventory management and federal acquisition systems. Possessing a thorough knowledge relating to stock rotation, hazard alerts and recalls to ensure outdated or otherwise compromised supplies and material are removed from usage areas. Recognizing problems and collecting applicable data to make recommendations for a solution. Strong knowledge of inventory systems such as OmniCell, Generic Inventory Package (GIP), bar coding, aseptic procedures and logistics processes. Thorough knowledge of different supply items, item descriptions, medical and surgical terminology, and understanding how items are used. Thorough knowledge of the various functions of Logistics to provide advice to customers on processes. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
