As a Law Clerk, you will serve as a Law Clerk to Commission Administrative Law Judges (ALJs). The incumbent will work directly with assigned ALJs to manage cases.
Upon passing the bar examination, the Law Clerk will be converted to a GS-0905 Attorney-Advisor position. The entire clerkship will last a total of two years, including the time the clerk spent in the GS-0904 position. The incumbent will have 14 months to pass the bar examination.
Duties
As a Law Clerk, you will:
Review settlement motions and prepares decisions approving settlements for ALJs.
Conduct legal research on procedural and substantive issues of mine safety and health law at the request of the ALJ.
Prepare draft decisional memoranda for review by ALJs.
Monitor the status of ALJs' dockets using the Commission's electronic case management system (eCMS).
Participate in prehearing conferences with petitioners, respondents, representatives, complainants, and pro se litigants
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Law Clerk Program GS-11: To be considered for the Law Clerk Program, applicants MUST meet the following criteria:
(1) Graduation from an accredited law school with the achievement of a Juris Doctorate.
AND
(2) Must not have been admitted to the bar of any State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or territories of the United States
