About the Position: Serve as a Data Engineer providing professional and scientific expertise in performance of work requiring knowledge and application of mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific principles, methods, and techniques for the Department of the Army (DA) Data Steward (DS).

Duties

Utilize tools such as Army VANTAGE, ADVANA, Microsoft Power Automate; PowerBI, Python, Structured Query Language (SQL), SAS, Oracle, machine learning methods, and other data analytics tools, as necessary. Performing research, analysis, and model development projects on data requirements and architecture. Develop, analyze, and recommend new methodologies to integrate data from various sources and systems. Identify, develop, and integrate pertinent information, including internal and external sources, through various data collection procedures and technologies, including emerging data science and big data methodologies. Prepare presentations, writes reports, builds data visualization products, and works to communicate technical results and actionable insights to decision-makers with varying levels of analytic sophistication. Refine understanding of underlying problems(s) and devises possible solutions, to include an expert understanding of issues and requirements of each division.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • IAW DoD 8570-01-M, within 6 months the incumbent must obtain and maintain Level 2 Information Assurance Management (IAM) certification.
  • Candidates must have at least one of the following DoD 8570.01-M Certifications Cloud+, CCISO, CISM, CISSP or CCSP.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. (Transcripts required at the time of application.) OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. (Transcripts required at the time of application.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes analyzing findings from data sets and research; extracting data from a variety of sources to develop briefings or reports for senior leadership; analyzing statistical data to provide recommendations; utilizing a variety of applications to extract data, such as, Oracle, Tableau, SQL (Structured Query Language), R, Python, etc.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Data AnalysisModeling and SimulationResearch Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
