You will serve as a Production Acceptance Engineer (PAE) in the Systems Acquisition and Production branch in the Test & Evaluation of Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport (NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV KEYPORT WA).

Duties

You will be responsible for procurement quality assessment and acceptance testing strategy development, contract language development, and performance monitoring and risk assessment associated with the production of torpedoes and undersea systems. You will Monitor Contractor, Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA), Depot, Underwater Range, and other Program operations for data associated with torpedo/system production hardware. You will assess available data, evaluate, and prepare status reports and schedules as required to complete project assignments. You will coordinate with a Technical Project Manager, Lead Systems Engineer and other Production Acceptance Engineers (PAE) within Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Customer Advocates, and/or Contractor personnel for reporting and support of data calls. You will assist other PAEs in the test strategy planning, analysis, evaluation, and assessment recommendation generation associated with those products under their primary purview. You will prepare contractual documentation to facilitate proper production acceptance as a part of future procurements. You will coordinate with technical personnel, where necessary, for the incremental development of weapon production acceptance strategies, requirements verification specifications, and database environments.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a 0801/General Engineer, 0806/Materials Engineer, 0830/Mechanical Engineer, 0850/Electrical Engineer, 0854/Computer Engineer, or 0855/Electronics Engineer, depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer conducting engineering production assessments of hardware or software systems to ensure products meet or exceed requirements for a warfare program. Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Degree: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
