You will serve as a Technical Assistant and Advisor to the Chief of the Systems Integration Branch for coordination, monitoring, and performance of systems engineering roles in support of projects and programs to include resource estimating/planning and business development for the department. This position is located in the Systems Engineering and Integration Division, Space Systems Department of the Engineering Directorate at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).
Duties
Serve as assistant to the Branch Chief on matters pertaining to the estimating, planning, coordination, monitoring, and performance of work assigned to the Project Engineering Branch.
Exercise a high degree of engineering judgment and leadership in proposing and coordinating new work within the branch/division/department.
Provide technical guidance in the discipline of systems engineering to include application of principles, policies, theories, practical concepts and best practices,
lessons learned, and use of tools and systems.
Serve as a mentor to employees with a focus on systems engineering and leadership as it applies to roles that rely heavily on integration and collaboration
across engineering disciplines.
Perform multiple functions which include: planning, research, design, development, test and evaluation, cost analyses, program and project management. Monitors contracted work either externally or on-site in the facility of the contractor.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.
GS-15: To qualify at the GS-15 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:
Applying systems engineering to a project/program to include technical leadership and systems management;
Designing, developing, testing, or evaluating of flight hardware across the project/program lifecycle;
Leading and mentoring engineers to identify problems/issues and develop resolutions.

Education
Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus.
If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
Degrees in engineering technology are
not considered qualifying for this position.
