About the Position: Serve as a Data Scientist for the Headquarters Department of Army (HQDA), G-3/5/7, Directorate of Strategic Operations (DAMO-SO).
Duties
Responsible for performing research, analysis, and model development projects on data requirements and architecture.
Develop, analyze, and recommend new methodologies to integrate data from various sources and systems.
Analyze complex data elements and systems, data flows, dependencies, and relationships in order to contribute to conceptual physical and logical data models.
Propose future data pipelines constructs for emerging CP CoE requirements.
Conceive, plans, and conduct projects to include data convergence efforts for migration to cloud through Industry, Academia, and Government engagements.
Prepare presentations, writes reports, builds data visualization products, and works to communicate technical results and actionable insights to decision-makers with varying levels of analytic sophistication, via Agile framework.
Identify technological gaps which need to be bridged between imaginative and futuristic concepts and practical materials, hardware, and processes and/or the methods for closing such gaps.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- IAW DoD 8570-01-M, within 6 months the incumbent must obtain and maintain Level 2 Information Assurance Management (IAM) certification.

Basic Requirement for a Data Scientist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. (Transcripts required at the time of application.)
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. (Transcripts required at the time of application.)
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using scientific methodology, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract insights from structured and unstructured data; providing guidance for data-driven decision making; conducting in-depth analysis of data; analyzing systems specifications, data gathering and systems evaluation methodology. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
