Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for managing Federal records and information. Typical work assignments will include: Develops, publishes, and evaluates management control systems and procedures applicable to staff and contractors with regard to the handling, storing or disposing of federal records. Prepares files for shipment to the Federal Records Center (FRC), including adherence to quality control standards to distinguish agency records from non-record materials, and insuring use of shipping protocols established by regulation and procedure. Data administration to ensure case management or other records system to reflect FRC information. Designs results in system improvements to efficiency and effectiveness of the utility of official records including preservation, archiving of records, and the prompt and systematic disposition of temporary records according to the appropriate records schedule(s). Conducts studies to address suitability for storage or conversion to required formats for transfer to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) or other appropriate records storage organizations such as cloud storage in accordance with law, regulation, and procedure. Analyzes operations in relation to record management requirements to develop systems, standards, and procedures that promote overall operational efficiency and effectiveness that, at the same time, complies with applicable federal records guidelines. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-13: To be eligible at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as: continually reviewing data entry to ensure accuracy and database integrity; developing, managing, and evaluating the office's records management program; designing and implementing file arrangement systems, filing procedures, and filing techniques of official records including case material; providing analytical advice and assistance to staff and contractors with respect to individual, or case-related, records management issues; developing systematic data audit procedures and periodically reviews caseload data. Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)-The CTAP provides eligible surplus and displaced competitive service employees in the Department of Justice with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
