The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Air Force Special Investigations Academy's (AFSIA) Training Management Division.
Duties
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of Air Force Special Investigations Academy's Training Management Division, ensuring that training management complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.
Represents the AFSIA with a variety of instillation and functional area organizations.
Ensure implementation and execution of training courses in accordance with DoD, AF, and AFOSI requirements and complies with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements in order to support the mission.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must have completed or be able to complete specific adult education and training upon appointment.
- Must adhere to the standards of professional conduct for AFOSI personnel as outlined in the applicable AFOSI policies and regulations.
- May be required to work overtime and to work other than normal duty hours (evenings, weekends, and/or holidays); subject to recall duty
- This position meets the executive exemption criteria for the Fair Labor Standards Act (5 CFR 551.205).
- "This is a Supervisory Position." A 1 year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.
- The selectee must undergo an internal background investigation by AFOSI and must be approved for duty by the Commander of AFOSI or the Commander's designated representative(s).
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, General Inspection Investigation Enforcement and Compliance Series 1801.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of investigative techniques and laws of evidence, the rules of criminal procedures, admissibility of evidence, constitutional rights. In-depth knowledge of law enforcement training and authoritative technical leadership in law enforcement training areas and experience with the principles, concepts, and terminology characteristics of the law enforcement training discipline. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Experience in a primary/rigorous Federal law enforcement position is a prerequisite of this supervisory position. The duties and responsibilities require considerable experience as a Law enforcement officer during which he/she must have acquired knowledge of the criminal laws and Federal rules of procedure which apply to cases involving crimes against the United States. This position requires knowledge of investigative techniques and laws of evidence, the rules of criminal procedures, admissibility of evidence, constitutional rights. Search and seizure, and related issues with regard to the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
In depth knowledge of law enforcement training and authoritative technical leadership in law enforcement training areas and experience with the principles, concepts, and terminology characteristics of the law enforcement training discipline. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
Ability to supervise, train, and develop a staff or subordinate professionals and support personnel. Ability to successfully select, lead, develop, motivate, supervise, and evaluate people and to support the EEO program in practice and spirit.
Ability to analyze complex organizational and operational problems and develop timely and practical solutions, work" operations to meet exigent or dynamic program requirements.
Ability to establish program objectives and performance goals and to manage multiple projects and activities, allocating competing personnel, material, and fiscal resources in order to achieve both short and long-range program goals.
Ability to deal cooperatively and effectively with individuals or groups representing widely divergent backgrounds, interests, and points of view. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
