Duties

The Maintenance and Operations Supervisor is responsible for planning daily, weekly, monthly, preventive and maintenance work schedules to accomplish all field activity work. Directs all work to include interments and disinterments. Reviews progress of all work being accomplished. Ensures compliance with all rules, regulations and operating within established policies. Inspects grounds daily to plan and schedule ground maintenance activities. Oversees all headstone activities. Develops and establishes all preventive maintenance programs. Responsible for training of employees. Responsible for maintenance of all building/ infrastructure. Responsible for administrative oversight of all subordinate employees. Responsible for developing and maintaining a budget for all field operations. Conducts inspections of all cemetery properties. Supervises all permanent and temporary field employees. Conducts surveys of gravesites for daily use and coordinates the opening and closing of the graves in the daily interment operation. Using cemetery maps, records of interment, and other documents, the incumbent provides a daily report of all interments certifying that the accountability of remains has been processed in accordance with the Accounting for Remains in National Cemeteries guidance. He/she ensures that the appropriate graves are open in advance of the scheduled interment. Determine which graves to open considering weather and ground conditions, workload, and availability. Coordinate all disinterment's with the Director, administrative team, private contractors and state and local authorities when necessary. Reviews the progress of all work being accomplished to ensure ·that the quality of workmanship and timely completion of work is achieved and that the cemetery grounds are maintained in an orderly, neat and dean appearance at all times to reflect credit on the overall operation. Ensures that his/her subordinates are complying to all rules, regulations and operating within established policies and procedures so that all burials, casketed and cremated, are accomplished in a dignified and orderly manner. Ensures operations are completed in compliance with NCA's Operational Standards and Measures, Organizational Assessment, and Improvement (OAI), National Shrine Standards, and all other local, Midwest District, and National standards, directives, and policies. Required to work as and with COR, engineers, and contractors as areas of the cemetery are renovated and developed including buildings and structures. He/she is required to work with contractors as the COR in the accomplishment of grounds maintenance. Work schedule: Will be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement,11/03/2023. Your background must demonstrate work involved in a wide range of cemetery operations and show the ability to supervise other employees in the execution of these cemetery operations. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements: This position requires moderate to heavy physical effort with reaching, bending, turning and moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate different controls on various types of equipment. Work requires frequent bending, standing, stooping, pushing, climbing, kneeling, walking and exposure to constant vibrations and jolting caused by movement of equipment over uneven and rough terrain and running of other power tools. Position may require lifting and moving moderately heavy objects, weights exceeding 50 pounds with or without assistance. Incumbent must have full use of upper and lower body extremities, as moderate to heavy exertion is required in the operation of large vehicles, equipment and in attaching or removing implements from tractors. Working Conditions: Much of the work is performed outdoors and incumbent is exposed to extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, wind, sun, snow, and ice. Incumbent is subjected to dirt, dust, mud, water, noise, and fumes from motors and/or exhaust. Terrain will range from flat to steep hills and work is performed around trees, headstones, markers, and other obstructions. Incumbent may be exposed to high noise levels and is required to operate equipment, power, and hand tools for extended periods of time. Incumbent will wear appropriate safety clothing and protective equipment as required by regulation and procedure. Examples are hard hats, goggles, face shields, breathing masks, etc. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
