As a Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will perform nonprofessional technical work in functions such as development, design, evaluation, construction, inspection, application, standardization, testing, or operation of engineering facilities, structures, systems, processes, equipment, devices, or materials.Location: Heating Operation & Transmission Division (HOTD), Public Buildings Service, National Capital Region, Washington, DC. **This is not a full-time telework position** 

Duties

Assist in ensuring quality supplies and building services are accomplished to meet tenant requirements. Advise on the establishment of reliable methods of operation and set points of pneumatic, electronic, and electric metering controls. Monitor and inspect facilities' water quality and chemical addition programs to determine adherence to the contractors' water treatment program in field office buildings, minimizing corrosion and scale of Government equipment. Initiate or recommend corrective action or improvements in operational, maintenance, repair, and administrative processes. Provide input for updates and revisions to mechanical, electrical, controls and piping schematics and drawings. Perform evaluations and ensure effectiveness in the building and/or facility related areas such as cleaning and housekeeping, pest control, landscaping, structural repairs, ash and trash removal, painting of equipment and piping, delivery and storage of fuel, and security. Perform engineering analyses of building load factor to develop correlations of usage as a function of building mission requirements and weather parameters. Review Architect/Engineer (AE) scopes of work, design, technical analyses, cost estimates and schedules for accuracy, and negotiate or direct changes as necessary through the Contracting Officer (CO). Develop or validate unit prices for labor and materials. Gather data, participate on teams, and provide input in designing and determining specifications for utility systems such as heating, air conditioning, ventilating, plumbing, and pneumatic control systems. Perform technical reviews of contractor-prepared designs and specifications and make recommendations to non-routine issues. Assist in the development and evaluation of repair processes, alterations, and systems replacement project concepts to ensure effectiveness in design, cost, benefits, and priorities. Review change order proposals for accuracy. Monitor and inspect mechanical systems to ensure the maximization of mechanical reliability and minimization of system inefficiencies. Maintain baseline records of equipment test results, prepare reports of test results, and notify personnel of test results and recommended repairs.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Specialized experience is work that has provided a practical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles regarding boiler plant and refrigeration plant systems and associated distribution systems; and a working understanding of trade practices, accepted safety policies, and use of protective equipment.
