About the Position: Serve as a calibration specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, nucleonic, optical/laser, physical and dimensional standards and measurements applicable to the calibration, certification and evaluation of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).

Duties

Provide calibration traceable through the Calibration Laboratory and the Primary Standards Laboratory to the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Provide information on test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) accuracy's and uncertainties under a variety of conditions. Perform repairs incidental to calibration as required by equipment specifications. Provide metrology information for a wide variety of general purpose of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

I have the ability to perform common parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, physical and dimensional standards and measurements applicable to the calibration, certification and evaluation of unusually complex high precision calibration laboratory reference standards. I can calibrate customer test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) requiring measurement. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen OutAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade PracticesTrouble shooting PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending during the course of extended periods on measurements. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 50 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
