The primary purpose of this position is operate and maintain engineering equipment in support of road systems and other program areas.

Duties
Operates one or more heavy gasoline or diesel powered wheeled or crawler type engineering and construction equipment to excavate, backfill, grade or level earth to specifications
Ensures equipment is maintained in good working condition.
Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, minor repairs and adjustments, and maintains proper records.
Moves earth and rock, piles brush, etc. on steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, and other surfaces with similar rough features to grade the earth to the general contour desired on trails, roads, or construction sites.
Performs rough grading as well as fine surfacing on flat or rolling terrain. May perform fine grading with closer instruction and supervision.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
- Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

- Must possess and maintain a valid class A commercial drivers license.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License.
- This is a Test Designation Position. You will be tested for illegal drugs prior to appointment and randomly thereafter. Appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.

Additional Requirements (Screen-out):
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Must possess and maintain a valid class A CDL as a condition of employment. Please attach proof of CDL with application.
Drug Testing - This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Applicants must acknowledge this requirement to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use unless they currently occupy a TDP under the DOT/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program.

Education
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.
