This position is located in Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS), Assistant Commandant for Human Resources (CG-1), Director, Reserve and Military Personnel (CG-13), Compensation Division (CG-1332), in Washington, DC. 

Duties

As a Traffic Management Specialist within the Compensation Division, you will serve as a member of the Office of Military Personnel, which is responsible for all Coast Guard military personnel management policies including the development, coordination, and establishment of policy for military compensation entitlements.

  • A one year probationary period maybe required.
  • Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. GS-12 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience. Specialized experience must include: demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of personal property transportation policy, regulations and processes used in the shipment of personal property of military personnel; providing advice and guidance on military transportation entitlements; ensuring automated personal property systems are in compliance with security protocols; providing Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) and Defense Transportation Regulations (DTR) in regards to the transportation and storage of personal property; explaining technical matters orally and in writing to management responding to inquiries on transportation policy, procedures and entitlement matters; and providing guidance to others on specific transportation policies and procedures. Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
