The Truman VA in Columbia, MO, is recruiting for a Pharmacy Technician (Sterile Compounding).
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education or Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience.
Certification. Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). All persons employed in VHA in this occupation on the effective date of this qualification standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the title, series and grade held, including positive education and licensure/certification/registration that are part of the basic requirements of the occupation.
Grade Determinations:
GS-7 Pharmacy Technician
Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower level (GS-6) and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes.
Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staff
Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment.
Comprehensive knowledge of the procurement and formulary process.
Comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures, and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to, analyze data in VA information systems.
Preferred Experience:
5 years of Pharmacy Technician experience.
3 years of compounding parenteral medications to include potentially toxic medications or chemotherapy.
3 years of experience using closed systems transfer devices.
2 years of experience with pharmacy package in VISTA.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-7. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-7.
Physical Requirements: Principle duties require repetitive use of hands and fingers. May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 44 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit dose-cassettes, and IV solutions; stooping or kneeling; sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours). Normal ranges of hearing and vision are required to perform work and communicate effectively; must have the visual ability to distinguish between basic colors and shades of color. An ability to perform tasks requiring rapid mental and muscular coordination functions simultaneously is necessary. Must be physically capable of operating various types of equipment used for the job.
